Add GolSco to Your Home Screen (iPhone & Android)

GolSco works in any browser. You can use it just fine by typing the URL every time. But installing it on your home screen upgrades the experience significantly:

Offline access. The app works without cell service — critical because many golf courses have poor reception. Your round data is stored locally and syncs when you're back online.

Faster loading. Installed PWAs cache their core files, so they launch near-instantly instead of loading from the network each time.

One-tap launch. A home screen icon means you open GolSco the same way you open any other app — one tap. No typing URLs, no finding the right bookmark.

Full-screen experience. When launched from the home screen, GolSco runs without the browser address bar, giving you more screen space for score entry and dashboard viewing.

Push notifications. Installed PWAs can send notifications — useful for reminders or updates.

PWA stands for Progressive Web App. It's a website that's been built to behave like a native app — it can work offline, send notifications, and install on your home screen. But unlike apps from the App Store or Play Store, there's nothing to download. The "install" just creates a shortcut that launches the site in full-screen app mode with offline capabilities.

For you as a user, the difference between a PWA and a native app is minimal. GolSco works the same way whether you use it in the browser or from the home screen icon — the home screen version is just faster, cleaner, and works offline.

Once installed, do a quick check:

1. Launch from the home screen — make sure it opens in full-screen mode (no browser bar)
2. Turn on airplane mode — confirm the app still loads and you can access your data
3. Try entering a test hole — verify that score input works offline
4. Turn airplane mode off — your data should sync automatically

If all four checks pass, you're fully set up for on-course use regardless of cell coverage.

"I don't see 'Add to Home Screen' on my iPhone." Make sure you're using Safari, not Chrome or another browser. Only Safari supports PWA installation on iOS.

"The app doesn't work offline." Make sure you've opened GolSco at least once while connected to the internet after installing. The first load caches the offline files.

"The icon disappeared from my home screen." It may have been moved to a different page or into the App Library (iPhone) or app drawer (Android). Search for "GolSco" in your device's search.

"The app looks different from the browser version." When launched from the home screen, GolSco runs without the browser frame. The content is identical — it just uses the full screen.

Storage. GolSco's cached files are small — typically a few megabytes. Your round data is also compact. You won't notice any storage impact.

Updates. PWAs update automatically in the background when you're connected to the internet. You'll always be on the latest version without manual updates.

Uninstalling. On iPhone, long-press the icon and tap "Remove App." On Android, long-press and drag to "Uninstall" or use the app info screen.

Installing GolSco on your home screen takes 15 seconds and gives you offline access, faster loading, full-screen display, and one-tap launch. On iPhone, use Safari and the Share menu. On Android, use Chrome and look for the install prompt or menu option. Once installed, verify offline functionality before your next round.
